A police team had gone to rescue a hostage in a village in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj. However, the team was attacked by a mob of tribals which also locked a few in a room and then beat the officials leading to a cop’s death.

A police officer died after a mob of tribals attacked a police team he was part of, that had gone to rescue a man in Madhya Pradesh’s Mauganj district, some 600 km from capital Bhopal. The group of tribals allegedly kidnapped and killed a man, then attacked the police team which were trying to rescue the deceased in Gadra village. The cops have taken five persons into custody in connection with the case.
“Two persons including an ASI (assistant sub-inspector) have been killed and other policemen have sustained minor injuries,” Rewa Range Deputy Inspector General of Police Saket Pandey told PTI. The news agency cited sources and added that the cops had to fire in the air when the mob surrounded them.

SDPO Ankita Sulya, who led the rescue operation, recounted how the tribals trapped her inside a room with the dead hostage. As per TOI, she said that an enraged crowd rioted outside and she came to know about ASI Ramcharan Gautam’s death after her rescue.
The incident comes day after an ASI rank officer was killed by a mob of villagers in Bihar where he had gone to investigate a case. Before this, the villagers in Araria beat a cop to death and freed a criminal.
What Happened – The Incident
A group of Kol tribe members kidnapped a man named Sunny Dwivedi on Saturday suspecting he had killed another tribal, Ashok Kumar, a few months ago. Police records stated Kumar died in a road accident. The cops got input about Dwivedi’s abduction, and a team headed by Shahpur police station house officer Sandeep Bhartiya rushed to Gadra village to rescue him, the PTI report added.
