A Class 5 student died after a school bus she was travelling in overturned at Valakkai in Kerala’s Kannur on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The incident took place near the Valakkai Bridge at around 4 pm when the school bus, belonging to Chinmaya Vidyalaya and carrying 15 students, lost control on a slope and flipped over, they added.

The deceased was identified as Nedhya S Rajesh who was thrown out of the bus as it lost control and she was crushed under the wheels. According to reports, brake failure caused the accident, however, the police said that an investigation into the incident is underway.
14 students sustained injuries in the accident that occurred while dropping the students home.
The injured students were rushed to Taliparamba Taluk Hospital by the locals for treatment. The 11-year-old girl’s body was shifted to Government Medical College at Pariyaram.
The school authorities did not issue any statement immediately.
