“Give us just one chance…You can throw us out the next time if we don’t work,” Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday made another pitch for change in Gujarat while addressing the ‘Adivasi Sankalp Mahasammelan’, a public gathering in Chanderiya village in the tribal heartland of Bharuch’s Valia.
During his first public address after AAP formed government in Punjab, Kejriwal referred to speculations of an early assembly election in the state and challenged the Saffron party. “I have heard speculations that Gujarat elections will happen early because they are scared of AAP. We have formed a government in Delhi and recently in Punjab. Now, it is the turn of Gujarat,” he said.
“They (ruling party) feel that Gujarat will turn towards AAP if they give us time till December. But I am telling you I am a ‘fakkad’, I only have the hand of God and the support of the people. You can conduct elections now or six months later, I will defeat you,” he asserted
Slamming the ruling party over poor conditions of schools and government hospitals in the state, he urged the people of Gujarat to “break BJP’s arrogance” by voting AAP into power.
Referring to his talk with a BJP leader on his flight from New Delhi, Kejriwal described the ruling party’s alleged arrogance and said: “I asked him why you (BJP) have not worked in Gujarat for 27 years. He said we don’t need to work; people are giving us the votes anyway. I want to urge you all to break their arrogance.
The AAP leader further said that the BJP leader told him that Congress leaders in the state are in the party’s pockets and that it doesn’t even need to fight elections.
Along with Kejriwal, Chhotu Vasava-led Bharatiya Tribal Party (BTP) leaders also attended the tribal meet. Last month, Chhotu Vasava and Mahesh Vasava met Kejriwal in New Delhi. The BTP earlier had an alliance with the Congress. However, ahead of the Gujarat local body polls, the party allied with the Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Throwing a challenge to his Gujarat counterpart Bhupendra Patel to conduct a single examination without a paper leak, Kejriwal said, “Gujarat BJP has created a bizarre world record in exam paper leaks. They have broken all world records in paper leaks… I have heard Guinness Book Record officials held a meeting and will add BJP’s name to the list of maximum paper leaks!”
While condemning Gujarat’s education sector, Kejriwal compared the condition to Delhi where the AAP government changed the fortunes of government schools in seven years in such a way that 4 lakh students have shifted from private schools to government schools. “Give me five years and if I don’t repair your schools in five years, you can kick me out of Gujarat,” he said.
