Guwahati: At least 12 passengers including two children died and several others were injured after the bus they were traveling in collided head-on with a truck in eastern Assam’s Golaghat district on Wednesday morning.
Golaghat superintendent of police, Rajen Singh told reporters that the bus was on its way from Golaghat to Tinsukia and collided with the truck head-on at around 5am on the NH-37 at Komarbondha area. The truck was coming from the Jorhat side. “According to our information they were on their way to Tilinga temple at Duliajan in Tinsukia,” he said.
“Ten people died on the spot and two others died in hospital. The injured have been admitted to Jorhat medical college hospital. An investigation has started to find out why the incident took place,” Singh said.
Police said there were 49 passengers in the bus and the deceased included two children and two women. Conditions of some of the injured are said to be critical.
