All the 41 workers who were rescued after they got stuck inside a partially collapsed tunnel in Uttarkashi for 17 days have been declared medically fit and can go back to their homes, the AIIMS-Rishikesh said.
The AIIMS-Rishikesh on Thursday said all the 41 workers, who were rescued after being trapped in an under-construction tunnel in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi for 17 days, have been given medical clearance and can return to their homes.
According to the administration, 40 workers have been discharged. However, one worker from Uttarakhand stayed back at the facility for the treatment of a congenital medical condition that was not related to the tunnel collapse.
In the health bulletin released on Thursday, AIIMS-Rishikesh Medical Superintendent Prof Dr RB Kalia, Head of General Medicine Department, Prof Dr Ravikant and Dr Narendra Kumar from the hospital administration said all the 41 workers evacuated from the Silkyara tunnel were admitted to AIIMS-Rishikesh on Wednesday afternoon.
“After preliminary investigation, no injuries were found in any of these workers. All of them were subjected to intensive health check-up for pre-existing medical conditions. Also, their blood tests, kidney, ECG reports, liver function test and X-ray were done. All the workers are physically normal and clinically stable,” the bulletin said.
About the Uttarakhand patient who remained in the hospital, Prof Dr Ravikant said he was diagnosed with Atrial Septal Defect, an anomaly that is present at birth.
“His physical condition and vitals are normal. He has been shifted from the Disaster Ward to the Department of Cardiology for further investigations. This disorder is not related to tunnel collapse,” he said.
