The ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ protest has been planned by students, seeking Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s resignation over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Gloom, anger and rage enveloped the City of Joy as thousands of people took to streets to protest against the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. It’s been almost a month but there seems no endgame in sight for the ongoing situation and the protesters have today planned ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ or march to Nabanna (state secretariat) in Kolkata.
As protesters plan to march towards the secretariat, the area around has been turned into a fortress with three-layered security by Kolkata Police and Howrah City Police in place. Kolkata Police and Howrah City Police, combat forces, Heavy Radio Flying Squads (HRFS), Rapid Action Force (RAF), Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) and water cannons have been deployed to tackle any untoward incident during the protests.
Traffic advisory has also been issued in view of the same.
