The ‘Wednesday hump’ was missing on Maharashtra’s Covid chart as the number of cases seemed steady at 200-plus for the second consecutive day.
But a look at the changes in the weekly tally showed a clear rise in Covid-19 cases. A state public health department report showed a 31% rise in weekly tally of Covid cases in Maharashtra. While 1,097 cases were registered across the state between April 29 and May 3, the tally shot up to 1,447 between May 4 and 10.
A senior public health department official said that while weekly trends are more indicative of problems, the caseload is still way below the threshold to be labelled as a worry.
Of the 221 cases registered in Maharashtra on Wednesday, the majority (124) were detected in Mumbai. The weekly rise in Mumbai is almost 32.4%: 637 cases were registered between April 29 and May 3 as against 844 between May 4 and 10.
